S.J. Lawrence Architects Celebrates GOHBA Award Win for The Wilfred

The Greater Ottawa Home Builders’ Association (GOHBA) has been the voice for the residential housing industry in our region since 1951, shaping the standards for Ottawa architecture. Comprising builders, developers, renovators, trade contractors, suppliers, and manufacturers, GOHBA sets the gold standard for excellence in our industry.

At S.J. Lawrence Architects Inc., we are thrilled to announce our recent success at the 40th Annual GOHBA Housing Design Awards.

In collaboration with Theberge Homes, our project The Wilfred earned the title of winner in the Custom Urban Home (2,800 sq. ft. or less) category. This award marks a significant milestone in our journey, and we’re excited to share the details of our award-winning project.

The Wilfred: A Masterpiece of Contemporary Elegance

The Wilfred was part of a select nine-home development around Kilmorie, Ottawa’s historic second-oldest stone home. Drawing inspiration from this iconic Ottawa landmark, we’ve reimagined The Wilfred through a modern lens while preserving the essence of the neighbourhood. Our design gracefully integrates with the existing heritage structure, demonstrating our commitment to innovative architecture. The home’s blueprint thoughtfully divides it into two wings, creating a harmonious separation between private quarters and living spaces. The H-shaped layout ensures a welcoming entrance and a secluded rear seating area for entertainment.

By skillfully leveraging the existing terrain, The Wilfred bathes its interior in natural light through expansive basement windows and offers easy access to the rear yard. Externally, the home showcases a blend of rustic stone, sleek aluminum panels, composite lap siding, and a standing seam metal roof. As one steps inside The Wilfred, they are greeted with cathedral ceilings, an arresting feature wall, and an archway adorned with natural stone, all providing delightful views of the rear yard. The dining room, living room, and kitchen are meticulously designed with clean lines, natural tones, and luxurious finishes, creating an inviting atmosphere.
